Stanley

Just south of Hong Kong  you will find what was once the most populated part of island. Stanley is known for its market, promenade, beach and overall European seaside town vibe.

Emma, who I lived with when I did my exchange to Paris, came to visit and we headed over on a sunny day. It was a short trip since she had to catch her flight but a lovely one.

Having loved it so much I dragged Duncan this past weekend. We didn't go swimming but instead explored more of the town and surrounding areas. I actually preferred their market to the infamous ladies market  of kowloon and although there are more beautiful beaches, the atmosphere of the town beats others.

Worth a visit!

Sun days Beach days

Who knew Hong Kong had so many amazing beaches? I sure didn't!  With summer arriving much earlier than it ever would in Canada, most of our Sundays have been spent by the water. A few weeks ago we went to Repulse Bay, it wasn't hot enough to spend the whole day in the water but the sunset was amazing! A week or so after we headed to Cheung Chau, which I thought wasn't the most beautiful but getting to take the ferry out of Hong Kong and feeling like you were miles away from the city was lovely. My favourite so far has been Shek O.  It's usually quite busy but I enjoy that atmosphere with all the city goers escaping to nature even if it's just for the weekend.  Hong Kong is full of surprises and with every weekend that passes and every new thing we do, I fall more and more in love with this place.

Kung Hei Fat Choy!

I arrived in Hong Kong just in time for Chinese New Year, which meant the city was buzzing even more than usual. I met tons of people through the school I'll be teaching at and we battled through jet lag and began exploring. Among many stops we went to the Botanical/Zoo gardens, the flower market, Chi Lin Nunnery, and Big Wave Bay.  We also enjoyed the night life, which is quite an experience compared to Canada where most nights end around 2 am, but here they can go on till 6 am! I also went to visit my cousin who works for Thomson Reuters and got to play reporter and go in front of the camera!  I didn't take pictures of everything (I've been too amazed to take out my camera half the time) but here are some shots:
